About

The mission of the Association for Gender Equity Leadership in Education (AGELE) is to provide leadership in the identification and infusion of gender equity in all educational programs and processes, and within parallel equity concerns, including, but not limited to, age, disability, ethnicity, national origin, race, religion, sexual orientation and socio-economic status.

- Leadership and Advocacy…to ensure the infusion of equity principles into educational programs and services.

- Professional Development…to connect equity research and practice, and broaden the knowledge base and support system for members.

- Collaboration, Networking, and Outreach…to build broader constituencies and influence other organizations and associations.

AGELE is governed by a Steering Committee that is elected by the membership. Steering Committee terms are 3 years in length, and are staggered so that there is never a year when all members are newly elected. Any AGELE member who has been a member for at least one year and has attended at least one prior AGELE conference is eligible to self-nominate for a term on the Steering Committee. The Steering Committee holds two face-to-face meetings each year, one generally in early December and one during the two days immediately prior to and the afternoon following the annual conference.

The Steering Committee also holds several conference call meetings during the year, along with additional individual phone calls and/or contacts required to conduct organizational business. Self-nominations are accepted at any time, but are due no later than 30 days prior to the first day of the annual conference, which is where the election is held.
